The great popular movement of the 17th century developed on an economic basis – it was primarily a protest against those forms of economic exploitation of peasant labor that came to Eastern Ukraine from Western Ukraine.

Agriculture ceased to serve the exclusive purposes of one’s livelihood, as it had been until then. Grain received a monetary value, as honey, hides, and livestock had already received it before.

I saw that only socialist-revolutionaries went with the people, and this party, unknowingly, became the bearer of the old slogans of the Ukrainian revolutionary-populist tradition.

At the latest, because only at the very end of the 15th century, Western Europe turned to grain. This demand reaches our lands in the second half, and mainly in the last quarter of the 16th century.
